The wine: The Montelena Estate Collection showcases the exceptional character, quality and ageability of their flagship wine, the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.   Per Wine Spectator, who gives this vintage a 95 score, "this is a smooth, rich, dark and polished Montelena - in short a grand wine - with remarkable depth, richness and concentration.  The purity of currant, mineral, black cherry and anise is deliciously focused and the tannins are ripe and supple, making this a very approachable wine, even at this stage.
The winery: You may remember Chateau Montelena as the Napa Valley winery, founded in 1882, that is most famous for winning the white wine section of the historic "Judgment of Paris" wine competition.  Chateau Montelena's Chardonnay was in competition with nine other wines from France and California under blind tasting.
